Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month With Us
From September 15 – October 15, the Care Center will be celebrating our guests of Hispanic heritage with a variety of food samples, coffee, entertainment, and more. To extend the dignity beyond this one month, the Care Center has put together an Amazon Wish List with items that will be used to stock our food store with Culturally Responsive Foods. Join us this month during one of our shifts or on social media to see how we are hoping to extend dignity and unreasonable hospitality to over 50% of our guests during Hispanic Heritage Month.

Serving a Diverse Community Well
Over the past few years, the Care Center has seen a drastic rise in new guests, many who are refugees or immigrants from Venezuela and Ukraine. There has been an increasing awareness of the disparity between the food offered at the Care Center and the large number of Hispanic, Latinx and Eastern European guests.
In 2023, the Care Center first introduced the idea of Culturally Responsive Foods as a way to offer foods that better reflect the diversity of the guests we serve. These are safe and nutritious foods that meet the diverse taste and needs of customers based on their cultural identity (CDC). By providing an increased selection of cultural foods, the Care Center hopes to become a beacon for immigrants and refugees by offering a sense of familiarity, comfort, and belonging as they tangibly experience the love of God.

Send Culturally Responsive Foods to the Care Center
As part of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Care Center has created an Amazon Wish List with items they will use to stock the Food Store. These items include different types of rice, beans, spices, oils, and other items that have a last shelf life and can be used to help bring familiarity and comfort to food recipes. To help stock the Food Store with Culturally Responsive Foods, visit the link here now through October 15 to shop the Amazon Wish List and have items sent directly to the Care Center.
